Paul N. Urick of FutureScripts to Serve on The Wistar Institute Leadership Council
Pharmacy benefit manager eager to help raise awareness for cancer research

January 29, 2010 — Paul N. Urick, R.Ph., of FutureScripts, headquartered in Philadelphia, has accepted a one-year term to serve on the Leadership Council for The Wistar Institute. Wistar’s Leadership Council is comprised of business and community leaders who share The Wistar Institute’s commitment to expand the boundaries of knowledge of biology and medicine for the benefit of public health.

“Through exploring genetic changes that lead to cancer and studying the complexities of the immune system, Wistar researchers contribute vital new information to scientific knowledge,” said Paul Urick, R.Ph., senior vice president for FutureScripts. “Their discoveries are shedding light on the biological mechanisms underlying illnesses like cancer, cardiovascular disease, autoimmune disorders, and infectious diseases — the necessary first step in prevention or development of advanced treatments. We are proud to be associated with Wistar and I look forward to serving on the Council.”

Leadership Council members increase their knowledge of scientific innovation, provide philanthropic support for Wistar priorities, complement the Wistar Board of Trustees through service on Board sub-committees, and communicate the importance of cutting-edge research with their social and professional networks.

Urick represents the only pharmacy benefit management company on the council and he brings to the group a wealth of pharmaceutical knowledge and industry expertise. His primary role on the Council is to spread and promote awareness of the mission and work of The Wistar Institute. One way of doing so is through social and networking gatherings during which members have the opportunity to invite other business and community leaders who share their interest in eradicating cancer and other major diseases.

The Wistar Institute is an international leader in biomedical research with special expertise in cancer research and vaccine development. Founded in 1892 as the first independent nonprofit biomedical research institute in the country, Wistar has long held the prestigious Cancer Center designation from the National Cancer Institute. The Institute works actively to ensure that research advances move from the laboratory to the clinic as quickly as possible.
